GT World Challenge Magny Cours

A magnificient weekend in the Silver Cup for Comtoyou Racing
Jamie Day and Kobe Pauwels

Race weekends may follow one another, but they rarely resemble each other—except when success begins to settle in. The persistent bad luck since the last 24 Hours of Spa seems to be giving way to a more favorable period for the team. One might even say a more glorious one, given the performances since the Misano event (20.07) and even more so this weekend at Magny-Cours, which mark a return to success…

Back in Shape

More precisely, since the endurance race at Monza, where the legendary trio Drudi / Sørensen / Thiim (PRO) claimed third place in the 3-hour race last June. The Baert / Day / Pauwels (Silver) lineup was knocked out at the first chicane on the Milan circuit. Not to mention Antoine Potty’s terrible crash during free practice.

In Sprint at Misano—a twisty track not particularly favorable to the Aston Vantage—Jamie Day (GB, winner of the Aston Martin Driver Academy 2025) and Kobe Pauwels (B) confirmed what they had already hinted at: third place on Saturday, then victory the next day after securing pole position in the Silver category.

Confirmation at Magny Cours

The fourth and penultimate Sprint event of the season, Magny-Cours will go down in the team’s history as one of the perfect race weekends. On an upward trajectory, Jamie and Kobe showed visible ease both in and out of the car. On the first day of the event, “only” second in practice, they won the Silver category in the race (7th overall) with the fastest lap to boot. Even better the next day: pole position, victory, and fastest lap (10th overall). In this unique Sprint format, where part of the success hinges on pit stops, the mechanics were more than up to the task with lightning-fast stops.

More than enough to satisfy Team Principal François Verbist: « We lived through a nightmare at the 24 Hours, where unfortunately none of our cars finished, even though our competitiveness wasn’t in question. Our leading car was actually in 3rd place at the time. Since then, we’ve had a bit of a fire in our belly, and no one here has given up. Jamie and Kobe have been in sync since Misano. The various practice sessions allowed our engineers and the team to fine-tune high-performance sprint setups. All this positive energy is leading to today’s this results. »

Leading the Silver Cup

The three consecutive victories have had a miraculous effect on the championship standings: Jamie Day and Kobe Pauwels now lead the Silver Cup drivers’ championship with a slight advantage, and the team also tops the Teams standings.

No excessive enthusiasm, though.« We went from the fear of being out of it to being leaders in just three races, » says Jean-Michel Baert, owner. « What delights me most is seeing the return of uncontained joy throughout our team. One of our sponsors told me at the foot of the first podium in Misano: ‘You’re the team that cheers the loudest for your drivers, even when you’re “only” third!’ That says it all. We remain clear-headed, taking the waves as they come—good or bad—race by race, but always giving it our all. » In short, the Comtoyou attitude.

We must also mention the performance—less visible, admittedly—of Ricardo Baptista and Rafael Suzuki, our Brazilian duo in the Bronze category. They did not achieve the expected success in the race to confirm their potential. Their progress is steady, the speed is there—so maybe a podium in Valencia?
